RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES

Each and every day, when classes are through, we offer a wide variety of planned activities for the athlete or artist alike. The extensive Penn State athletic and recreational facilities are among the most outstanding facilities on any campus. Our enthusiastic Summer Enrichment staff enjoys the fun right along with you as you take part in…

Poetry readings, kickball games, tie-dye workshops, pick-up games in volleyball, softball, basketball, soccer, ultimate frisbee, improvisation workshops, ping-pong tournaments, discussion groups, hikes, an a capella singing group, lacrosse, tours of Beaver Stadium, rock band, and much, much more.

The students who enjoy themselves the most are those who take full advantage of the opportunities. Participation is the key!

SPORTS CLINICS

For those students who wish to hone their athletic skills beyond our recreational games, we offer specialized sports clinics in BASKETBALL, SOCCER, LACROSSE and VOLLEYBALL. TENNIS lessons are also available for those of any ability as well as access to our WEIGHT-TRAINING and conditioning facility: a superb 20,000 state-of-the-art fitness center. While there is no extra charge for recreational play (except golf greens fees) there is a supplemental fee for sports clinics, lessons & access to the fitness center.

FACILITIES

The extensive Penn State athletic and recreational facilities are among the most outstanding of any campus. They include…
  • Beaver Stadium: the colossal 106,500 seat football stadium and home of the Nittany Lions
  • McCoy Natatorium: 4 pool facility with three indoor and one 50 meter outdoor pool
  • Recreation Building: houses 4 basketball courts, 4 volleyball courts, 14 handball/paddleball courts, 10 squash courts, fencing, and wrestling facilities
  • Greenberg Indoor Sports Complex: an indoor Ice Pavilion with 2 Ice Skating Rinks and an indoor soccer field
  • Two 18 Hole Golf Courses: for nominal greens fees, students can play as often as they like
  • Tennis Courts: 48 courts including 16 indoor and outdoor courts at the Tennis Club Complex
  • Outdoor Track: a nine lane 400 meter tartans surface
  • Intramural Building: houses weight training and wrestling rooms, 6 basketball gymnasiums, a jogging track and walleyball facilities
  • Hetzel Union Building: Penn State’s student union, complete with delicious eateries, billiards club room, and extensive study lounges
  • Varsity Athletic Fields: with plenty of field space you can enjoy the full complement of athletic equipment available to all Summer Enrichment students at any time
  • Stone Valley Recreation Area: A beautiful 72 Acre lake with boating, swimming and volleyball
  • Hiking Trails: famous Mt. Nittany and Tussey Mountain are sure to thrill our nature-lovers
  • Dance & Aerobics: classes are offered in a variety of facilities
    Summer Enrichment students have unlimited use of most recreational and athletic facilities on campus.

    EXCITING NIGHTLIFE

    The fun just begins as the sun goes down! Both the town of State College and the Penn State campus are a dynamic setting with unlimited opportunities for exciting evening activities. As collegiate social life continues after classes end, our nightly program of planned events adds to the “Total Pre-Collegiate Experience.”
