Each and every day, Summer Study’s University of Vermont summer athletic program offers a wide variety of planned activities for the artist and athlete alike to ensure that the fun never stops when classes are through.. The extensive UVM athletic and recreational facilities are among the most outstanding facilities on any campus and host tons of activities for both students and our enthusiastic Summer Study staff including…

  • Pick-up games in volleyball, softball, basketball, soccer and ultimate frisbee

University of Vermont Sports Clinics:

For those students who wish to hone their athletic skills beyond our recreational games, we offer specialized clinics in SOCCER, SAILING and ROCK CLIMBING. TENNIS lessons are also available for students of any ability along with access to our WEIGHT-TRAINING and conditioning facility: a state-of-the-art fitness center with all the finest and safest equipment including stairmaster, Nautilus, Nordic Track, lifecycles, free weights and more. A perfect way to keep in shape! While there is no extra charge for recreational play, there is a supplemental fee for lessons, sports clinics and access to the fitness center.

ON & OFF CAMPUS RECREATION

  • Patrick-Forbush-Gutterson Athletic Complex boasts six basketball/volleyball courts, six indoor tennis courts, seven racquetball courts, two squash courts, a four-lane running track, a three-lane suspended running track, a six-lane pool and ice skating rink.
  • Centennial Field: The baseball park is one of the oldest minor league baseball parks still in use in the country and the home of the Vermont Lake Monsters.
  • Adventure Ropes Course: In the woods adjacent to the UVM campus is an extensive and thrilling ropes course. Beginning from the "ground up," climb, if you dare…and end with the satisfaction of knowing you made it to the top!
  • Rock Climbing at Petra Cliffs: Look out below! An extensive indoor facility designed to appeal to climbers of every level. Petra Cliffs is the Burlington region's #1 choice climbing facility.
  • Beautiful Beaches: Life's a BEACH in Burlington! Three gorgeous sandy beaches near campus allow students to enjoy sunbathing, sand volleyball, sunsets, hikes and more. While in Vermont this summer, you'll get the refreshing feeling of this fabulous coastal community.
  • Water Sports: Canoe, kayak and paddleboat rentals are available (additional fees apply) on the serene setting of Lake Champlain. Students can enjoy rest and relaxation to compliment a day of academics.
  • Echo Lake Champlain Science Center: This newly renovated aquatic center is committed to educating people about the ecology of animals, plants and marine life in the basin.

Summer Study students have unlimited use of most on-campus University of Vermont summer athletic and recreational facilities.

BURLINGTON NIGHTLIFE

After classes end, college social life continues with our nightly program of planned events and activities for the “Total Pre-College Experience.” Both the UVM campus and the town of Burlington are dynamic settings that offer unlimited opportunities for exciting evening activities.

Activities include…

  • The Outdoor Film and Movie Series on campus, which is an experience everyone must try
  • Bowling at Champlain and Spare Time Lanes
  • Concerts at Champlain Valley Fair Grounds, Memorial Auditorium, Higher Ground, and Battery Park
  • "Big Fatty's" right on Main Street, voted best BBQ food on the east coast!
  • Club Metronome for DJ nights as well as musical acts of all genres
  • Shows at Nectar's, famous for the birthplace of the band PHISH
  • Movie nights at The Roxy
  • A nighttime cruise aboard the 424 passenger Spirit of Ethan Allen III
  • Open Mic nights at Higher Ground Comedy Club
  • Sunset hikes, karaoke nights, ultimate Frisbee and more exciting nighttime events are all part of your summer with Summer Study at UVM!
