Summer Study Programs at UVM - Culture, Environment & More

ABOUT UVM and BURLINGTON

Summer Study’s University of Vermont campus tour aims to provide prospective students with an overview of the prestigious university and a taste of what one can expect from a summer like never before!

Founded in 1791, The University of Vermont has long been recognized as a top-tier school offering nearly 100 bachelors degrees, 52 masters degrees and 21 PhD programs. Influential Vermonters of the past include Ethan Allen (early American leader of the Vermont Republic), Calvin Coolidge, John Dewey, Robert Frost and Trey Anastasio (founding member of the band Phish), to name a few.

UVM's strong commitment to critical thinking and intellectual inquiry is reflected in the community as well. Summer Study programs at UVM allow our students to be a part of a larger community where respect for the natural world, tolerance, diversity, and creative expression is commonplace. The 460-acre campus is environmentally GREEN through and through. The character of the community will rub off on our students allowing them to grow, mature, and heighten their senses of the world around them.

For many years, Burlington has been revered as a utopian location for an academic experience as well as a recreational heaven. It's been labeled the "Number One Dream Town" by Outside Magazine, the "Best GREEN Place to Live in America" by Organic Gardening Magazine, and the “PERFECT Small City" by National Geographic Traveler. With an average high temperature of 78 degrees in July, summers on the shores of Lake Champlain and along the peaks of the Green Mountains, are rich with recreation and outdoor activities. Canoeing, kayaking, fishing, bicycling, hiking, and sailing all take place just a short distance from campus.

RESIDENTIAL LIFE at SUMMER STUDY UVM

Our University of Vermont campus tour continues with the residence halls, which are alive with "Spirit." For maximum security, all our Summer Study participants will be housed in one residence hall, allowing us complete control. Dorm rooms are comfortable, spacious and have all the comforts of home. In order to ensure the best possible roommate matching, Summer Study directors will review "roommate survey forms" completed by each student in the spring. Each room is equipped with individual twin beds, 2 desks, 2 chairs, and 2 computer ports for easy access to the Internet. Drawer and closet space is more than ample. Laundry facilities and cable televisions are available in the residence hall as well as ping-pong, foosball and recreational areas to socialize and meet your new Summer Study friends. Only footsteps from your residence hall are plenty of fields for ultimate Frisbee, softball home run derbies, and simply socializing with friends. For keeping fit, tennis courts, basketball courts, volleyball courts, a fitness center and swimming pool are also a stone's throw away. Our Summer Study staff members live with our students and are available to help at all times.

DINING

All participants in our Summer Study programs at UVM will dine in the attractively furnished, state of the art Harris-Millis Dining Facility. While on campus, Monday through Friday, 3 meals per day will be served with brunch and dinner served each day on the weekends. All meals offer a wide variety and selection of tasty foods, prepared fresh daily and planned by a nutritionist. The "All You Can Eat" dining plan includes choices from delicious entrees, salad bars, veggie bars, barbeque, brick oven cooked foods, frozen yogurt, desserts and beverages. When traveling on weekends, we will dine in restaurants in the areas visited.

The UVM campus and town of Burlington quickly become home to our students and are an integral part of A SUMMER LIKE NEVER BEFORE!
